Ebenezer Baptist Church located in the heart of the City of Alexandria, VA at 909 Queen Street  is a traditional African American Baptist Church with a profound legacy.  This year 2013, Ebenezer will celebrate 132 years of continued "Kingdom Building" in the same location.  We proudly reflect on many of our ancestors who sacrificed to bring us to our present day ministry.  We further reflect on an amazing history remembering not to delete the painful moments and struggles of those before us.  We have continued in their name with a firm commitment because this is our Savior's church.  Ebenezer
has a heart for the lost and downtrodden.  We strive to live out the meaning of our name "Stone of Help."  (1 Samuel 7:12)

In 1881, a group of members of the Third Baptist Church, Alexandria, Virginia separated themselves from the church and began meeting in the Odd Fellows Hall of Alexandria as a Sunday school.

Moving toward their vision, projects were begun to raise financial resources for a building and for the purchase of land.  In 1882, with a sum of $150, members purchased the land on which the present church stands.  At this time, Rev. Fields Cooke was called to serve as Pastor.

Since 1881 Ebenezer has been blessed with ten Shepherds who have contributed to our growth and spiritual development, each in his own unique and special way

Our membership is diverse, but consists of primarily African Americans.  The congregation age range is from early childhood to late nineties; with a heavy concentration in the range of 50-75 years.  All converts for discipleship attend new disciple orientation classes, and upon completion of classes receive the right hand of fellowship.  Disciples travel to Ebenezer from Suburban Maryland, the District of Columbia, Northern and Southeastern, VA and other surrounding locations.

The Church's Joint Ministry consists of members from the Deacon and Trustee Ministries.  The administrative office of the Church is composed of office staff and the position of Church Clerk.  Ministries include the Deacons, Deaconesses, Trustees, Christian Education, Sunday Church School, Missionary, New Disciples, Children and Youth, Young Adult, SOUL (Feed the Homeless), Youth Bible Study, Music Ministry and other outreach ministries.  (Please visit our website at http://www.ebenezer909.org/ for a further listing of our ministries.)

Alexandria is an independent city in the Commonwealth of Virginia and was founded in 1749.  As of 2010, the city had a total population of 139,966 and is located along the Western bank of the Potomac River.  Alexandria is approximately 6 miles (9.6 kilometers) south of downtown Washington, DC.  It is the seventh largest and highest income independent City in Virginia.

The historic center of Alexandria is known as Old Town, which includes the location of Ebenezer.  It is a major draw for tourists with it concentration of restaurants, antique ships, boutiques and theaters.  With more than 250 years of history and hospitality to its credit, Alexandria offers an array of historical and cultural attractions.  Like the rest of northern Virginia, as well as Central Maryland, modern Alexandria has been shaped by its proximity to the nation's capital.  The City is largely populated by professionals working in the federal civil service, the US military,
or for one of the many private companies, which contract to provide services to the federal government. Ebenezer is ideally located within 12 miles of Washington, DC, and Maryland's National Harbor.  Alexandria is also known as a "walking and biking" town, with a "family-friendly" atmosphere.  Access to an efficient andclean transit system is within minutes by foot, bike or car.  The Educational system in Alexandria has been ranked among the highest in the nation.

Ebenezer is also blessed to have the Mayor of the City of Alexandria as a disciple of the church.  Mayor William D. Euille was born and raised in the City of Alexandria, is a product of the Alexandria City Public School System and has been a member of Ebenezer since his early childhood.  He is the first African American of the city to serve in this capacity.

Ebenezer Baptist Church continues to grow as it meets the needs of the City of Alexandria and surrounding communities. Our mission is to educate sinners, edify the body of believers, and to elevate Christ as central to our living.  We do this through proclaiming the gospel of Jesus Christ, developing disciples and services of dynamic worship.
